Putting the "V" "I" "A" into "Humanity"

It was three buses to school and three buses back, but everything went smoothly.  The VIA gods were so kind today as to allow fast transfers for all the buses.  Amazing!

The shortest man in the world sat down next to me today on the "Looper."  He commented that we had the same color bag, only that his bag was from Wal-Mart and, lo and behold!, his bag was only 10 cents - the bag should have been a full dollar, yes, but his purchase at Wal-Mart had been sufficient enough to warrant a 10 cent bag.  I eyed the bag with amusement.  Something flat was inside and the bag was securely fastened with heavy duty paper clips.

In just a short amount of time, we swapped life stories.  He must have been nearing 70 years old.  He's an only child - they had to "cut up" his mother because of complications at birth.  Therefore, only child.  I told him about my family.  I'm married, I said, but I'm not going to have children.  I found myself reassuring him - it's okay - there are plenty of wonderful children out there.  There was a plethora of children in the seats in front of us.  One toddler kept throwing down his cup.  Upon the third retrieval of said cup, the old man joked to the child's father (??) that it was only 10 cents, as a convenience fee, to pick up the cup now.

10 cents, I said, to make up for that Wal-Mart bag!  We both had a good laugh about it.  Then, he was gone at the next stop.

I had chalked up my VIA adventures for the day to be just that, but, surprisingly, at the last wait of the day (which wasn't long), I was informed that there were hackers riding the VIA buses, collecting phone numbers.  And, it was pointless to report them.  Especially to the police - they're being paid by the mafia.  Identity theft is on the rise and Texas is number one for identity theft.  So says the crazy white woman (by the way, it takes one to know one).  I know there was truth in there.  Somewhere.  Somehow?

Summer adventures continue!  VIA VIA! VIA VIA!
